My Five Favorite Fitness Apps To Keep You Motivated

Can we all just be honest for a second? Staying motivated is not easy. At least, it’s not always easy for me, especially when it comes to fitness. I’ve been trying extra hard lately to stay on top of things, but sometimes I need a little extra help. That may mean getting a buddy involved, finding a better schedule, or a bunch of other things I’ve mentioned on how I jumpstarted my fitness. Now I know I’m going to sound extremely basic, but it’s a new year and I want to get in shape. I think what’s really important is that I’m not trying to be skinny or just losing weight, I’m trying to keep myself around for a long time. So now that I’ve come to this realization, I think I need some help. I, like the rest of my generation, are obsessed with apps. There is literally an app for EVERYTHING. So why not recruit some apps to help me stay motivated about my new fitness journey. Here are my five favorite fitness apps that I think will keep you motivated.

Tone It Up

Hey, ladies! I’ve got the app for you. If you need a bit of a nudge to get you going, Tone It Up will send you notifications saying it misses you! There are a bunch of classes that you can do on demand on your own time, or you can sign up for a class that happens every hour. You’ll be able to cheer on your fellow females who are doing the class right along there with you, but without having to be in the same room. This app also has beginner levels so you don’t have to think that it’s too extreme if it’s been a while since you picked up a dumbbell or attempted to do a sit up.

Sweat

Now my sister swears by this app as her way to keep her going. Sweat is a little different from Tone It Up that it actually shows you which workouts you should be doing every day. It also has a cardio portion where you can either do a class or go for a walk, run or bike ride. The classes are also set up differently, as you have two circuits that you try to perform as much of in a certain amount of time. If you like circuit training, and a challenge, this is the one to go for.

Fitbit/FitStar

I have to say that I am one of those people who is obsessed with their Fitbit. The apps that accompany the little gadget are just as great as the product. If you’re more motivated to walk around, then then actual Fitbit app will keep you going with physical reminders to get up and walk around every hour you have it selected for. The FitStar app is more like a personal trainer. You can select your training session and level by first doing the demo where they figure out where you are in your health cycle. These workouts are fun and keep you going, especially with the music they have playing. Plus, since it’s connected to your Fitbit, you get minutes for exercising without having to program it!

Gaia

If yoga is more of your thing, then you need to check out Gaia. I love this app so much because I can also use this on my laptop. You can choose your difficulty level, what part of your body you want to focus on, and how long you want to practice yoga for. It’s great if you want to get centered and zen before heading into the office, or if you want to unwind after a long day.

Fabulous

I mean, this app actually says it in the title. If you want to be a more fabulous version of you, this app helps you create better and healthier habits. When you sign up, you’re pretty much getting a little coach to keep you going. Select which program is right for you (‘get more energized’ is free) and begin your journey! There are mini challenges, which are fun and definitely make you feel like you’re sticking to your promise of getting fit. So, after fifteen days, you should be all set with some new and healthy habits!
