What’s in my bag: Makeup Edition

Now, I actually surprised myself with the amount of stuff I had in my purse when I did my “what’s in my bag” post. Pleasantly surprised, in fact, that I thought I was going to find a lot more napkin and loose change. However, the bag that needs to be cleaned out and refreshed the most is every girl’s essential carry-all: the makeup bag. As I’ve gotten older, my makeup sanctuary has gotten bigger. Yes, when I go on little weekend getaways I do carry a smaller supply, but when it comes to the (almost) daily grind, my bag has everything I believe I need to make me ready to tackle anything life wants to throw at me. So what do I rely on when I want to accentuate my natural beauty? Let’s find out!

Base: Primer, Foundation and Concealer

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Primer: Becca Backlight Priming Filter | $38.00

Not all primers are created equal, and I found that some make my face feel way more oily than I would like. The Becca primer makes me feel like I don’t have anything on, and it keeps my makeup looking fresh for a while. The primer comes in a few different versions, but I personally like the backlight priming filter the best.

Foundation: NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation | $49.00

Like when it comes to primer, I’ve tried a lot of foundations that make my face look like I have way too much on, or don’t feel right for me. This NARS foundation is light and looks natural. It also covers extremely well with not a lot of product, which means I’m not running to Sephora to get a new bottle all of the time.

Concealer: Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Concealer  | $28.00

This concealer does the job! It makes all of my blemishes and under eye circles vanish, so I don’t feel uncomfortable heading into work or going out to dinner. It’s very light and feels good on my skin, which if you can’t tell by now is a big problem for me. I hate touching my face through out the day and thinking I have a fingerprint. This concealer doesn’t budge at all.

Next Steps: Contour, Blush, Highlighter and Setting Powder

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Contour Palette: Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Palette | $49.00

I used to have a massive problem with contour palettes. I didn’t know how to use them and so many of them have a crazy number of shades that you need to use. I am not a fan of complicated! So when I came across the Kat Von D palette, I fell in love. It’s not only simple to use, but there are enough combinations to choose from that you’re not feeling too overwhelmed or worried if you’re a bit paler than usual. Plus, it’s a refillable palette!

Blush: NARS Blush | $30.00

I love blush so much, but sometimes I get too excited over the colors that it ends up not matching my skin tone at all. Luckily, I found NARS blush in Dolce Vita and I could not be happier. It has a bit of shimmer, which I love and goes great with my highlighter. I also don’t feel overdone, or like I have a fever.

Highlighter: Dior Nude Air Luminizer Powder | $56.00

Now when it comes to highlighter, I have to admit, I was a little afraid of it. But now, I would never not use it. The Dior Nude Air Luminizer Powder is perfect for getting a nice glow on my cheekbones and other parts of my face. I just love seeing the sun bounce off of it. Also, it’s not too much, which means it doesn’t look like I’m sitting directly under a fluorescent light 24/7.

Setting Powder: Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder  | $38.00

Setting powders can be tricky, especially when you haven’t found the right one yet. However, this one is amazing. It’s light, but really does the job of making sure all of the work I put into feeling and looking my best doesn’t go to waste. I like to really set it under my eyes to make sure that my dark circles don’t come creeping out midday.

Final Touches: Eye Primer, Eyeshadow, Eyeliner, Lipstick and Mascara

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Eye Primer: Benefit Stay Don’t Stray 360 Stay Put Eyeshadow Primer | $26.00

Eyeshadow can be tricky, especially when you notice that through out the day it keeps falling off your face. You put so much effort into that smoky eye, or your daytime look, that you don’t want it to go away three hours later. I love Benefit’s Stay Don’t Stray primer because it really makes it all stay put. I never think that my eyeshadow goes anywhere else besides my eyelids, which is exactly what it’s supposed to do.

Eyeshadow: Too Faced Sweet Peach Eyeshadow Palette | $49.00

One of my best friends in the world is an incredible makeup artist. Check out Erica Wright‘s amazing company @glamdonewright for a ton of inspiration. So when Erica gave me this palette, I knew I had to drop whatever else I was using and switch over. Not only does it smell good, it perfectly matches the look I love to go for every day. It’s super easy and has a ton of shades for you to play around with no matter what the occasion.

Eyeliner: Kat Von D Tattoo Liner | $20.00

Now I used to swear that I would only use Benefit’s eyeliner. That was until they decided to discontinue it. I couldn’t believe how hard of a time I had to find a replacement. Either the brushes were too flimsy or they were pencil. Thank the lovely Kat Von D and her team for developing the tattoo liner. I love the brush and the application of the product, which glides on so well and I’m not afraid of messing up.

Lipstick: NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil | $27.00

I’ve become a massive fan of lipstick over the past year, and I’m so happy I have. NARS, like a lot of their products, makes lipsticks in a ton of fun colors to choose from. I have a lot of shades by the company, but my favorite for everyday is “Do Me Baby”. If you’re looking for a great matte lipstick or pencil, this is the one for you.

Mascara: Lancôme Monsieur Big Mascara | $25.00

Mascara is something I always get confused about when purchasing. I have a massive pet peeve of when lashes get stuck together. Plus, I will not use eyelash curlers ever since I got a stye from one (was a terrible experience, which is why you must ALWAYS clean your brushes and devices). However, I do love the Lancôme mascara. It goes on nicely, good applicator brush and I’ve never really had a problem with it smudging too much through out the day.
