So many places, so little time. I am one of those people who loves traveling. I enjoy getting off the plane and exploring new places that I’ve never been to before. It also helps that I have one of the best travel buddies in the world (thanks, Felix). Deciding on where to go is always a fun part of the traveling process, but there are so many places that it’s hard to narrow it down! Luckily, we got to start the new year in one of our destinations, Lisbon, which means we’ve already started exploring. So this year I decided to make a travel wish list of all of the destinations I hope we get to visit this year.
New Orleans, Louisiana
So, New Orleans has always been on my list, especially when it comes to one of my secret guilty pleasures. My sister and I are both obsessed with a few murder mystery/true crime podcasts. It only seems right to have ‘The Big Easy’ on my list for that reason alone. Put all of that with the music and food and you’ve got one of the places I need to visit this year.
It has always been a dream of mine to visit Thailand in general. My family and I were supposed to go this past year, but unfortunately we didn’t end up going. So why not add it to this year! Besides having incredible beaches, there is so much architecture and history that makes it a place worth traveling to.
Now Nashville is home to some of my favorite people, which is why I’ve made it a point to add it to this year’s travel wish list. Since moving back to the US, I’m trying to visit all of my friends and family I haven’t seen in a very long time. Some I haven’t seen in years! It’s also home to country music, which would definitely be an experience for the boyfriend who has never really listened to it.
Tokyo. Now, we’ve been talking about visiting this magical city since we started dating, so I think it’s finally time that we made it there. I would love to make it to Tokyo and experience their culture first-hand. Also, I think I could squeeze in a couple of days at Disney, which would be amazing, and is on my Disney bucket list.
Charleston, South Carolina
I have fallen in love with this place too many times to count, and it’s all been either through photos or television (thanks ‘Southern Charm’). But this year I’m trying to actually make it to this beautiful South Carolina town. I think that it’s really the historic architecture that makes me weak in the knees. But it wouldn’t suck to actually have some good Southern food, too.
Bilbao is home to one of the museums I have on another bucket list that I should probably write on here one day. The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao is not the only main attraction that catches my eye. My lovely boyfriend is from Spain and has never visited this area! This just makes it more of an adventure for him to visit another part of his home country.
I’ve known plenty of people who have said that if they could move anywhere, it would be Boulder. Now, I want to find out exactly why they would want to do that. So, there’s no time like the present to put this Colorado town on my travel list. I mean, who would pass up the opportunity to visit the happiest city in the US, as stated by Insider.
When I was living in London, I thought I would finally get my chance to travel to Helsinki, plus a ton of other European cities, because I lived closer to them. Now that I’m living in Miami, it’s a little tougher to get to, but I’m not letting that stop me, especially when it comes to Helsinki. With incredible, design, architecture and environment, this Helsinki is a place I can’t miss.
Santa Fe, New Mexico
According to Insider, this town is dominating top destinations lists, with it being voted one of the best cities in the world voted by travelers AND one of the best US cities for foodies. Not that I consider myself a foodie, but I wouldn’t mind trying out some new stuff. The thing that made me add Santa Fe to this year’s list is that it is home to over 200 art galleries. Honestly, this is city is like a dream-come-true just based on that fact.
Now I have to say that Oslo was not on my list originally. However, I’ve been talking with my family more and more about going somewhere different for our annual holiday. Oslo seems like the perfect place to check off on my travel list this year for both myself and my other half. As an architect, he will be able to fall in love with all of the structures around us, and I’ll be able to enjoy the food and art since it is the homeland of Edvard Munch.
