April Reading Recommendations

Okay, I actually can’t believe how long it’s been since I’ve been able to write about what I’ve been reading! This is really due to the fact that when I started my job I didn’t give myself any time to do one of the things I love. I’ve finally made it a point to read more again, so I’m able to write and recommend a few of the amazing books I’ve recently read. Take a look below and check them out!

The English Wife by Lauren Willig

If you haven’t taken a look at past reading recommendations, then let me clarify something: I love period novels. I don’t know if that’s the correct term for them, but I love them. This one in particular takes place at the turn of the 20th century, as we follow Janie on her quest to figure out who really killed her brother, Bayard, and sister-in-law, Annabelle. This novel is filled with flashbacks as to how Bayard and Annabelle ended up in this mess that would lead to their demise, as well as enough romance and suspense to hook any reader.

An American Marriage by Tayari Jones

Now if you haven’t heard of this novel yet, then you should. First, it’s an incredibly fast reads that sucks you in from the moment you meet Roy and Celestial and learn of the trials and tribulations in their marriage. You follow the two through how they guide themselves from dealing with Roy’s time in prison, to Celestial trying to keep her love ignited for Roy, while seeking comfort in her childhood friend, and Roy’s best man in their wedding, Andre. If this synopsis doesn’t convince you to pick this one up, it’s also a part of Oprah’s Book Club selection.

Our King of Cruelty by Araminta Hall

Finally, I get to this dark and twisted novel, which was almost too good for me to put down that I finished it in two days. Mike Hayes has suffered so many painful moments in his life that it seems like his saving grace from all of it is Verity Metcalf. Even though their relationship has their own and somewhat disturbing situations, it seems like they are perfect for each other. Now that Mike is returning to London from working for two years in America, he has decided to give V everything he could think she could want. He’s bought a house, got a great job, and has transformed his physical appearance that sounds like it would make Thor jealous. Most people in this situation, however, would probably not do these things if they found out that their ‘significant other’ was getting married to someone else. Not Mike though. To him, this is all a part of their game. Honestly, you need to read this. It’s ridiculously good and you will not regret it.
